At Mawson Primary School we use a balanced numeracy approach. This framework includes 5 - 10 minute warm up activities, whole class explicit teaching, differentiated group work and whole class reflection.

Our Mathematics programme embeds the proficiency strands understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning across the three content strands: number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. Mathematical language is an integral part of our programme and is taught explicitly throughout mathematics.

We develop numeracy capabilities through connecting mathematics to everyday life and apply the skills and knowledge in rich tasks.  Students have opportunities to use a range of manipulatives and quality classroom displays to reinforce learning. The use of visual learning and embedded formative assessment provide our students the tools they need to be successful and increase their mathematical capabilities.
