School Board

School Boards in the ACT were established in 1976 and were based on the following two principles:

  • that schools had as much decision making responsibility as possible and should be able to determine their own educational policies and
  • decision making at the school level should effectively involve teachers, parents, students and the department.

The School Board consists of three parent members, two teachers, the Principal and one ACT community member. One of its major functions is to determine the educational policies to be implemented at the school, including oversight of the school curriculum.

The Mawson Primary School Board meets monthly and these meetings are advertised in the school newsletter, 'Schoolweek'.

For more information see ACT Council of P&C Association

The Mawson Primary School P & C provides a forum for parents to discuss matters of interest and concern about the school and its programs. The Mawson P & C is an active group and monthly meetings are well attended. In addition, the P & C take responsibility for organising fundraising, social events, the school canteen and the school uniform shop.

Members of the P & C also help with special community projects, such as the development of the Spirit of the Dragon Courtyard, the planting of the cherry tree garden, working bees to help beautify the school and the creation of our values mural located in the GP Room.
The latest project commenced earlier this year during our Building Our Learning Community Program is the creation of a mural depicting what it means to belong to Mawson Primary School. When the mural is completed, it will be placed on an external wall outside the hall.

Parent Helpers

Parents are welcome to assist with classroom activities, such as, listening to children read, art/craft activities, computing, camps and sport, and may contact the school if they wish to volunteer their time. Teachers will advise parents through the 'Schoolweek' when additional assistance is needed, such as at sports carnivals.

Please be aware that when parents come to the school to assist there is a form that needs to be completed, which is obtained from the front office. For security reasons parents are also asked to wear an identifying badge that is provided by the school.
