Student Representative Council

boy2w1Two representatives from each class meet with the co-ordinating teacher each week to discuss issues brought up by children during their class meetings. Over the year a variety of issues are discussed, such as, organising social functions, fundraising and playground issues. The co-ordinating teacher raises these items with the principal and discussion continues until resolution or decisions can be made.

Capital Kids – Capital Leaders Program

Four Year 6 students leaders had the opportunity to join with over 500 other ACT Government school pupils for an information session held at the Convention Centre.

From the students :

“The tables were set up like for the Logies or the Oscars… The speeches were really interesting and the table we shared with Higgins had lots of freebies.

We all had lots of fun watching slide shows and listening to speakers, including Barbara Holborow, a Children’s Magistrate, Andrew Fuller and Matt McFadyen.

A seven year old girl named Chloe told us about why she had become an organ donor, the youngest registered one. Andrew Fuller showed us things on the big screen that tricked our minds and ran group sessions, where we did some problem solving with kids from other schools.

After recess we listened to heartbreaking tales from Barbara Holborow about children who needed lots of help and support. Matt McFadyen talked about the hardships he had faced on his trek to Mawson’s Hut in Antarctica. He has done heaps of great things and he is only 23.

Kirra, a Year 6 student from Fraser sang for us, while her dad played the guitar. Her dad, Steve Amosa, had been on Australian Idol. They even had a kids circus for entertainment during break times. All up the leadership program was really good.”

A big thank you to those people who have sent in great toys to be used in the sandpit.

srccowMarshmallow, the spotty cow, came to our school last year to look out for the best behaviour at assembly. We enjoyed Marshmallow so much, that we thought it would be nice to give her a friend. So we welcomed a little companion for Marshmallow, and at the last SRC meeting (after consultation with the students) we decided on a name for our little pink pig.....'Strawberry'!

shirtThe SRC also organised a loud shirt day for the last day of Term One to support the Shepherd Centre, which helps children with hearing loss. We had great fun dressing up in bright colours for the day and raising almost $200 for the Centre.
